This course is intended to enable level 100 students appreciate the foundation of contemporary politics in Ghana. The course will expose students to issues relating to the inauguration of governments and subsequent military interregnums in Ghana.
We begin with discussions on governments from independence to the introduction of the Fourth Republic (1957-1992). The course will also briefly touch on the transition processes towards the restoration of democratic governance in 1993.
Over the course of the semester, some of the pertinent questions that will be addressed include: the type of development models; ideological inclinations; political philosophies, and policy orientations of each of the governments installed over the periods under discussion had espoused and how they have shaped Ghana’s development.
